Was it just me or did summer fly by for everyone? As much as I love summer, I was ready to get back to school. There is something about the excitement leading up to the first day of school that I love so much. The official first day of school was Thursday, August 16. We are off to a great start in room #139. We are taking our time getting to know each other and ensuring that everyone feels welcome and comfortable. My goal is to make sure my room is an environment where students feel safe, successful, and challenged. I cannot wait to see everything we accomplish this year!

I'm in shock that it is already 3rd quarter! Between mindset lessons, extracurricular activities, holiday celebrations, and academics, time just seems to be going by in the blink of an eye! When it comes to math class, we are currently wrapping up Chapter 2 and will soon be moving on to our next chapter, which is all about slope. I am looking forward to continuing to work hard in the classroom so our 8th graders (soon-to-be high schoolers!) are well-prepared to continue their academic journey on to Waterloo High School.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 4th week of school. Time is flying! Dr. Schwartz sent a letter out to parents last week explaining the Yeti and our emphasis on having a growth mindset over a fixed mindset. The students in my classroom are already strengthening their growth mindset, and it is amazing to watch. Math is a tough subject for many students, but I have already heard so many of my students adding "yet" to the end of their sentences and changing the way they look at math. They are realizing that just because they don't understand a concept immediately doesn't mean that they never will. I am so excited to continue watching them grow in the classroom, and I will be growing with them! Here's to a successful 4th week of 8th grade!
I can't believe that tomorrow is already Friday! The first week of school has been very busy, but oh so fun! Next week will be exciting as well. Monday, August 21, is the Solar Eclipse. If you haven't already, please make sure your child has a signed permission slip turned in by Monday so he/she can participate in the activities. I am looking forward to it!
I can't believe that summer is coming to an end! I enjoyed my summer but am anxious to get back into the classroom. I hope you all are, too! From 6:00-7:30 on Monday, August 14th, you are free to come to school to drop off supplies, walk through your schedules, and say 'hi' to your teachers. Please come visit me!
